My daahlings, the age of Virgo is upon us. But we are smack in the middle of the 2008 hurricane season, and dears, with rain everywhere and the threat of flood in some places, the much anticipated Virgoan soirée is now on hold, pending more stable weather!
Dears, among those celebrating this season are siblings Desmond and Donald Panton, who celebrated on the 26th of August, as did Lorna Chong, Una May Lambert, Dawn King and Yolan Zanders.
Also celebrating are the fabulous artist, chronicler and art dealer, Anabella Proudlock; Marguerite St Juste; uber journalist Motty Perkins; businessman Chris Nakash; PR doyenne Lystra Sharpe; facilitator Peter Bovell. Noted lawyer Norman Wright, the lovely Sonia Ruddock; Capt (ret) Michael Lyn, Dr Blossom O'Meally-Nelson and Dwayne Goulbourne; politician-turned-investment banker-turned-politician Peter Bunting. The lovely Sulan Smith, celebrated on the second; dreadlocked Jason Johnson, of Constant Spring and Point Hill, celebrated on the 12th. Robert MacMillan will take the honours on the 13th of September. The lovely Gracia Whyte, fashionista-at-large and daughter of Novia McDonald-Whyte, will celebrate on the 15th, as will journalist emeritus, the esteemed Wyvolyn Gager.
Royalty
Doting parents Edward and Carla Seaga are all aglow, as they prepare to celebrate their daughter Gabrielle Seaga's birthday. The lovely Safia Cooper, daughter of Pulse's founder, Kingsley Cooper, is also celebrating this season. Cricketing royalty with the rakish model-like good looks, Chris Gayle, and legal eagle, and Director of Public Prosecutions, the oh sooo charming Paula Llewellyn, both celebrate their birthday on Friday September 21.
My dears, the age of Virgo will bow out on Saturday the 22nd, with the illustrious restaurateur and bon vivant, Mario Machado, celebrating his special day, as will be socialite and editor Christene King. The word here is, expect the party to be all weekend long and then some, but expect both celebrations to be highlighted and punctuated with the gusto and pizzazz, known only to those with the savoir-faire of the Virgo!
Champagne wishes all around with Beluga treats.
Olympic celebrations
Word is, it is full speed ahead for an Olympic-size celebration in honour of Olympic triple world-record holder, Usain Bolt and his fellow Olympians upon their return to the island in mid-September.
Dears, this will to be one cantata and then some, as it promises to be a fab fest with nothing but the fabulous in attendance. Wait for this one, as it promises to be all that!
Pool resources
And speaking of Olympians, word is, a number of private sector companies are all set to pool resources and make a significant contribution to the welfare of those Olympians who medalled in Beijing.
More anon, as this promises to be one fab initiative.
In the meantime, words of congratulations are still pouring in from former diplomats who served here, heaping their fulsome praise on the athletes and their performances at the 29th Olympiad in Beijing, China.
Congratulations
Among those offering congratulations are former German Ambassador Dr Christian Hausmann and wife, Harriet Huber; former US Ambassador and Mrs Glen Holden; former Canadian High Commissioners John Robinson, and Claudio Valle and his wif,e Louise.
