As the Caribbean Model Search (CMS) gets into top gear, with the grand finals set for Sunday September 7, Pulse is celebrating yet another of its past CMS stars this week.
Fresh from her 'Bed Head' campaign for British hair care giants Toni & Guy, Nell Robinson is all the rage in a 14-page fashion editorial for the uber, avant-garde Trace magazine, now on newsstands.
Robinson holds court with some of the top names in America's arts and entertainment as famed film director Spike Lee assumes the role of guest editor for an issue which celebrates black women in modelling, cinema and music. Given the historic significance of Barack Obama's US presidential campaign, this special Trace feature would not be complete without coverage of his wife, Michelle Obama, who speaks candidly about their political journey, their children and the prospects of being the First Family of the United States.
Glorious fashion
In a glorious fashion feature, shot by fellow Caribbean export Marc Baptiste, Nell shows off movie-star glamour and ultra sophistication in 50s inspired fashions, all orchestrated by style master Kithe Brewster. A Caribbean Fashionweek style alumnus, Brewster has been consultant to the stars for years. His extensive clientele of Hollywood actors, music and athletic superstars underscores his fierce fashion sensibility. Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Heidi Klum, Beyonce and Usher have all been styled by Brewster who, incidentally, was also creative director for the first athletic campaign featuring the famous Jamaica Puma collection back in 2003/4.
"It was great to work with Kithe. I loved the way he pulled my looks together for this shoot," said the Pulse Supermodel. "And, what can I say about Marc (Baptiste)? This is our third collaboration. He is great at bringing out the best in me. I know we'll be working together for a long time."
Denim
Robinson and Baptiste worked on last summer's return of hip 70s denim for British Cosmo. She will also be appearing in an upcoming book produced by the Haitian native.
Nell, along with agency colleague Jaunel McKenzie, won the Supermodel of the Caribbean and Caribbean Fashion Model titles respectively in Pulse's 2002 Caribbean Model Search. The girl who was declared 'The Body' after copping the cover of Arena magazine, is enjoying a stellar year. Her Toni & Guy campaign is on billboards all over Britain and she has had numerous high-flying editorials for fashion's premier glossies.
Not one to be shy about voluptuous assets as well as her high-fashion versatility, Nell has worked for some of the best in the business, including Victoria's Secret, GQ, Vogue, Rimmel and a host of other fashion industry top brands.
