Travel warning issued
published: Friday | August 29, 2008

WASHINGTON (CMC):

As Tropical Storm Gustav continues to lash the Caribbean, and an eighth tropical storm formed in the Caribbean Sea, yesterday morning, the United States Department of State warned US citizens about travelling to Haiti, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Cuba.

The department urged Americans who lack safe shelter and are likely to be affected by Hurricane Gustav to consider getting out of those islands.

Gustav was expected to pass very close to or over Jamaica today and was projected to target Cuba and the Cayman Islands next.

At least 22 people reportedly died in the Dominican Republic and Haiti owing to the passage of Gustav.
