What a wonderful time to be a young Jamaican man. The performance of our athletes in general and our males in particular, at this year's Olympic Games in Beijing, China, has been phenomenal. Even if we were a tad disappointed by Asafa Powell's failure in the 100 metres final, he rebounded in fantastic style. What's more, he's one fine fellow!

The pride we have felt these past two weeks is even more significant because the world, for a few days, focused on our positives and not our negatives. Even the gunmen took a little break!

Brilliant

Over the years, we have had much reason to complain about our men: lousy fathers, spouse abusers and lacking in the basic ambition of which women seem to have an abundance. But when Jamaican men shine, they are brilliant; businessmen, doctors, scientists, lawyers, teachers, soldiers, farmers and athletes. I guess they only have the moon left to conquer.

Excellence in men

In this year's bachelor edition, Flair salutes excellence in men of all hues - from uptown, across town, country and village. From the boardroom to street beat; from the church to the computer room.

Remember now, ladies, this list of bachelors does not mean the men are available; it simply means they are not married and we think they make excellent eye candy.

Some day, men like Bolt, Powell and Frater, will produce offspring from a superb gene pool. We hope they pass on to these children the dedication and drive to succeed that they received from their parents.
