Gleaner's Olympic Party
published: Monday | August 25, 2008

Roxroy McLean, Gleaner Writer

Etana

It was one big party in the parking lot of the Gleaner's North Street office on Saturday, as Jamaicans from all walks of life came out tocelebrate our athletes' achievements in the Beijing Games.

Jamaica's National Flag was hoisted 11 times in the Bird's Nest stadium, with a haul of six gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Gleaner staffers, entertainers and jubilant members of the public were given much to party about - and that they did.

The party featured some dancehall acts, including STAR Artiste of the Month Elephant Man, RDX, Wayne Marshall and Shane-O, as well as singer Etana and some Rising Stars contestants.

Elephant Man, who dubs himself the 'Energy God', gave his usual superb performance, with dance tracks like Nuh Linga, Sweep, Gully Creeper and Calm Them Down which had the people dancing.

Inspired by the Olympics

Dancers Ice, Ravers Clavers, Shelly Belly and Keiva showed their newly created dance moves which were inspired by the Olympics.

Shane-O was among the top performers, while MC Miss Kitty entertained the crowd with her onstage antics.

Portmore's sound system Area Code 876 had the patrons dancing between acts, as well as selectors from Coppershot who also provided entertainment.

The party was sponsored by Digicel, Fruta, Best Dressed Chicken, Wray and Nephew and Magnum.
