In a little over 10 seconds, Half-Way Tree erupted into a frenzy of excitement following Jamaica's performance in the 100m women's Olympic final in Beijing yesterday.

Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser took the event in 10.78s with her teammates Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart second in 10.98s: a clean sweep.

The feat gave all within view of the big screen television at intersection of South Odeon Avenue and Half-Way Tree Road all the right to celebrate.

"Mi feel like me deh pon top of the world," shouted an elated Winston Watson.

The employee from Courtleigh Hotel & Suites said he was at a loss for words.

"Right now, mi can't even explain myself ... look how the girl them bad," said Watson who seemed unconcerned that he was almost hit by a car as he was still in the street.

"Right now, mi nuh have time for that," he said in reference to the car, "you don't see a Shelly win."

And, the excitement built with each replay as more persons joined the celebration.

"Shelly! ... . Gwan, mi Jamaican gyal," shouted a man in mid-air as he jumped from a moving bus to join to celebrations.

Some motorists too stopped to join the celebrations.

"Awesome ... awesome, what an upset for the Americans?" shouted Carmen Lewis, as she drove past, waving the Jamaican flag.

Marion Smith, who was on her way to work said she was confident in the girls' ability.

"Me feel excited ... me can't explain what happen a while ago, I'm overwhelmed," said the St Elizabeth woman.

"I also believe in my country, and I knew they could do it," she added.

Fraser's win in yesterday's 100m was the first time in 12 years that a country won both the male and female sprint events at the Olympic Games. And, her run of 10.78s is the second-fastest national time to Merlene Ottey's 10.74.

"Kudos to all Jamaican athletes ... them do us proud already," said Watson.
