NOTE-WORTHY
published: Monday | August 18, 2008

Court revenues

I think it would be quite interesting and very important if the-powers-that-be could publicly disclose annually, the revenues earned/collected by way of fines through the various courts of law throughout Jamaica which come under the umbrella of the Ministry of Justice.

There are times when mention has been made of earnings from agriculture, bauxite, tourism etc, and at the start of the financial year the funding of all public sectors is disclosed through Parliament. My view is that the public disclosure should include what is earned through the courts

Crime in Manchester

Manchester is now wrestling with an upsurge of crime and violence , and so lost it's paradise of tranquility. On the early morning of Independence Day, four men were shot dead in Mandeville by gunmen. Three of the killings took place in the Mandeville market which has become an eyesore over the years. It is hoped that the meeting summoned by the parish council with the security forces and Member of Parliament to deal with the security situation will confirm the biblical truth that out of evil commeth good; that is to say, the authorities will hasten to activate what has been in the pipeline for years to build a new market.

Police 119 response

I'm writing in reference to the Letter of the Day in Saturday's Gleaner about police response to an emergency 119 call. I think if the authorities could get their response time right it would save a lot of lives. That goes for the police and ambulance teams. I clearly understand what this person is talking about. When I was home I've been in situations where the police respond the same way. When these things happen people are just going to take action in their own hands.

Remembering Les Laing

I knew Les Laing when he was a track star at Fresno State College in California. He was a great athlete and a gentleman. He would not remember me, but I sure remember him. Please let him know that he is remembered with much affection by many Fresno State alumni.
