From left, Jackson, Young, Groves, Wollery and Davis

In the aftermath of Usain Bolt's victory in the Olympics 100-metres final, Sunday Gleaner Writer Sheena Gayle sought reactions from people in Montego Bay yesterday.

  • Nadine Jackson: I am very happy that we got gold. I'm not disappointed that Asafa Powell didn't do as well. He will get another chance at gold and I wish him all the best.

  • Larry Young: The race was good but mi did want Asafa fi win a silver medal, but mi glad fi Bolt. Him do well.

Donaldson Groves: It was a great race; Usain did us proud, but I'm not happy with Powell's performance. We expected the race to end in one-two in favour of Jamaica, but that didn't happen.

  • Georgette Woolery: It's not surprising how the race ended. I expected Usain Bolt to win, no doubt, but I wanted Powell to do better. I wanted three Caribbean nationals to win the top prizes and be up on the podium.

  • Homer Davis: Usain was always my favourite and I'm proud to see Jamaica winning the coveted gold medal in the 100 metres final at the Olympics for the first time in our history and in a world-record time.

  • Everton Spencer: It was evident that Bolt was better physically and mentally prepared for the race. Although I wanted Asafa to get at least a silver medal, history has shown Asafa has a problem with the rounds of each race. There is always a question sign about how he will perform at the big races, but we remain confident that he will redeem himself in the 4X100 race.
