Pick-9 heading for $4 million
published: Friday | August 15, 2008

With the Pick-9 boasting a carryover of $2.5 million for tomorrow's race meet, a payout of $4 million looks a real possibility.

The Pick-9 embraces races three to 11, the Super-6 from five to 10. We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a five-year-old and up maiden special to be contested by eight moderate horses, including FRONT RUNNER, FLAVA MACHINE, FALLUJAH and the lightly raced GIRL YOU GLITTER with in-form Dane Nelson now slated.

On paper, it should come down to a straight fight between FRONT RUNNER, who was narrowly beaten by PATH OF BLISS in a slowly run straight five race some weeks ago, and the Desmond Shand-trained FLAVA MACHINE (working fairly well).

Briefly, MAYKEN JOY, who caught the eye in running (third) behind REGAL SELECTION on August 6, gets the nod over HONEY BUNNY (working very well) and THE REAL FURY (also moving well) in the sixth race over 1200 metres for three-year-old fillie. The down-in-class I AM PAID FOR looks a banker in the seventh over 1500 metres.

Then, take down-in-class COLLEGE BOY in the eighth, lightly raced SPACEMAN (working well) as a banker in the ninth and down-in-class THE BOMBER to catch the stable companions MR SKILL and NATURALLY ROYAL in the 10th over the straight for overnight allowance horses.
