While many were being festive on the Emancipation weekend, Martin and Lesley Miller celebrated their love for each other as husband and wife. On August 2, they exchanged vows of commitment at Sts Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church on Old Hope Road, witnessed by 200 guests. The radiant bride and groom were supported by a bridal party in the wedding colours, which were burnt orange, brown and gold.

The couple met while they were studying at the University of Technology. After nearly six years of dating, Martin saw it fit to commit and make Lesley his wife, while they were thousands of feet in the air. "That day was just drama, as it was like two days after a hurricane had passed and we were having problems getting on a flight to London. We eventually got on one, and about two hours outside of London Martin told me he was going for a walk to 'stretch his legs'," recalled Lesley.

tears of joy

She had also decided to go to the restroom and when she returned a flight attendant appeared with champagne. "While this was going on Martin was standing in front of me and I was like 'Ok then!' The flight attendant then told me to look in the glass because there was a piece of ice in it." By then Martin began expressing his love as Lesley shed tears of joy. And topping it all, their engagement was announced over the intercom.

With such an amazing engagement, the couple planned their perfect wedding with the reception at The Jamaica Pegasus. The bubbly new bride tried very hard not to cry at the ceremony but could not hold back the tears during the groom's reply.

Sister of the groom, Glendese Miller (left), cousin of the bride Ria Billouin (centre), and Stacia Pinnock, were among the best dressed guests at the wedding.

The couple should just about be done with their official 'honeymooning' today, after their sojourn in Montego Bay and Negril.
