Alpart make light work of champions

Former champions Alpart thrashed defending champions Windalco 4-1 in the opening game of the Inter-Bauxite table tennis men's competition last Saturday, at Kirkvine Sports Club.

Alpart got off to a fast start when Robert Gabay blew away defending singles champion George Hyman 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 (3-0), followed by Deron Parchment, who outlasted Justin Allen 11-8, 11-8, 11-9 (3-0), then Oliver Miller, who registered a come-from-behind 7-10, 10-12, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 (3-2) marathon win over Wayne Aird, to secure Alpart's three singles victories.

Gabay and Ernest Allen (Justin's brother) teamed in the doubles to beat Hyman and Aird 11-4, 11-4, 11-8 (3-0) to record Alpart's fourth consecutive victory.

Former singles champion, Mark Gregory, secured Windalco's consolation when he defeated Ernest Allen 11-6, 3-11, 11-8 and 11-5 for a 3-1 margin.

The league continues next week Thursday with St Ann Bauxite entertaining Windalco, starting at 6:30 p.m.
