Several Jamaicans were honoured at the third annual CaribbeanTales Film Festival held in Toronto last weekend.

Actress Leonie Forbes and cinematographer Franklyn 'Chappie' St Juste both received Lifetime Achievement Awards, while music video director Ras Kassa received the Innovation Award.

Jamaican-Canadian director Clement Virgo was recognised with an award for excellence in cinematic art, while international actor Peter Williams was honoured for dramatic excellence.

The late iconic director Perry Henzell was awarded the festival's Pioneer Award.

Jamaica's Consul General in Toronto, Anne-Marie Bonner, lauded the recipients for their efforts.

"We welcome the opportunity to recognise the outstanding contribution that many individuals have made to telling the Caribbean story," she said.

The 2008 CaribbeanTales Film Festival showcased cinema and television productions from Jamaica, and was held in association with Jamaica Trade and Invest (formerly JAMPRO) and the Consulate General of Jamaica in Toronto.

Nardia McKenzie, senior consultant of creative industries at Jamaica Trade and Invest, spoke about the importance of partnering with CaribbeanTales.

Vibrant culture

"The four-day festival celebrated the rich and vibrant cultural traditions that have made Brand Jamaica synonymous with world class cultural innovation and timeless iconic images of spirited rebellion," she said.

The four-day event was held July 17- 20.
