After his scintillating performance at the international go-kart meet, held in Kingston two weeks ago, Jamaica's 15-year-old sensation, Philip Myers, will today compete in the US Air Rotax Summer Shoot Out, in Wisconsin. The event will take place at the track in Shawano.

Myers, who is the son of Mark Myers, president of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, arrived in Wisconsin last Monday and has been preparing for today's event under the watchful eyes of his coach/instructor, Duncan Stewart.

He will be challenging the best crop of karters, who have been competing in the Rotax Junior Category on the American circuit. The Hillel Academy High student currently leads the Jamaica Karting Association points standing in the Rotax Junior category.

There are reports that at least two other Jamaicans will be participating at the meet. They are Mario Mair, the Miami-based Jamaican who gave a dazzling performance at the international meet in Kingston, and the other is 11-year-old Colin Daley, who has been dominating the Rotax Mini-Max category in Jamaica.

For some of the participants, this is one of the last opportunities for racers bound for the Rotax Nationals to compete on the track before the traditional blackout, which will be the final test of the course.

The top three finalists in each class will receive trophies and the winners will receive a set of MoJo tyres to be used in the grand nationals in September.

While Myers will be in action today, another Jamaican, Sabrina Sirgany, will be preparing for a big event at the Homestead Speedway in Miami, next Sunday. Sirgany has been in the US over the last two weeks getting ready for the showdown. She is daughter of Ricky Sirgany and the niece of Steve Sirgany, who was once a top competitor at the Dover Raceway, St Ann.
