St James juniors humble Hanover
published: Wednesday | July 16, 2008

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE ST James Under-17 team registered the biggest win of the Western Confederation Inter-Parish football competition on Sunday when they scored a big 6-1 win against their Hanover counterparts at the UDC field in Montego Bay.

The St James team, which drew 1-1 against Westmoreland in its opening game last week, were all the rage against Hanover, scoring through Donavan Carrey (two), Roshane Reid (two), Gavin Brown and Durrant Skyers. Janouy Graham got the lone goal for Hanover.

"I am pleased with the result because the youngsters followed instructions well and executed well," said St. James' coach Dane Randall. "However, I still believe there is a lot of room for improvement."

Opening game

While the St James team was mauling Hanover in Montego Bay, Trelawny, who had a 2-1 win against Hanover in their opening game, moved to the top of the four-team standings, clipping Westmoreland 3-2 in their game at the Elletson Wakeland Youth Centre in Falmouth.

Romaine Lewis, Odanie Morris and a Westmoreland defender, who inadvertently put the ball past his own goalkeeper, were the scorers for the Trelawny team. Robert Vanhorne and Horatio Hall were the scorers in Westmoreland's losing effort.

"We played reasonably well despite the closeness of the score," said Linnel McLean, the president of the Trelawny Football Association. "Two wins from two starts is the ideal way to start any competition."
