BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):
WINDWARD ISLANDS captain Keron Cottoy tormented Jamaica with his leg-spin bowling again yesterday and placed his side on a clear victory path in their third-round TCL Group West Indies Under-19 match.
Jamaica secured a 66-run first innings lead when they bowled out the Windwards for 108 after lunch on the second day of the three-day fixture at Kensington Oval
But Cottoy hit back with a five-wicket haul that ruined Jamaica's second innings for an appalling 59 all out and the Windwards - set 126 for victory - were on course for their first win of the series, closing at 41 without loss.
Earlier, the Windwards had endured a disastrous morning session after resuming their first innings at four for one in reply to the Jamaicans' 174 all out. They plunged to 74 for seven at lunch after pacer Gifton Wray flattened the top order with a five-wicket burst.
He first had Dennis Louis caught behind for five as the opener flashed at a delivery outside the off-stump. Wray then ripped out Kavem Hodge (10), Junior Jervier (0) and Dalton Polius (0) to stall the Windwards on 31, their batting tumbling from 31 for two to 31 for five.
Caught behind
Hodge was caught behind while Jervier and Polius were caught at slip fending off rising deliveries.
It became 39 for six when Wray removed Dennis Smith, brilliantly caught at mid-wicket by diving substitute Courtney Allen as the number seven batsman tried to hook a short ball.
Left-arm pacer Romeo Dunka put the Windwards in more trouble when he had Marvin Small (14) caught behind at 58 for seven.
The number three batsman, Oscar George, was still there at lunch on 23 with Cottoy at 74 for seven and the Windwards were only able to extend the innings a further 34 runs after the break.
In the Jamaica second innings, opening batsman Nick Blackwood top-scored with 19 and he was sixth out, while the young West Indies Under-15 player Donovan Nelson (14) was the only other batsman getting to double figures in a dramatic batting collapse.
Stumps against the Leewards
