Injuries hurt medalchances- Holness

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland:

Jerry Holness, Jamaica's technical leader to the 12th IAAF World Junior Championships which ended at the Zawisza stadium in Bydgoszcz, Poland, yesterday, believes injuries stifled their prospects of winning more medals.

"We have a number of athletes reporting here with injuries," said Holness, listing what he considered the main hindrance to a better performance.

Three athletes did not participate in the six-day championships, where Jamaica placed ninth in the standings with six medals. They are Vaughn McKenzie, Andre Peart who hurt his hamstring on Thursday and Misha-Gaye DaCosta who fainted during a training session.
