Saint International and Jamaican model Sigail Currie's profile got another international boost when she joined the world's top black supermodels on the runway last weekend in Nigeria.

The event, THISDAY Music and Fashion Festival 2008, saw Naomi Campbell, Leah Kibede, Alek Wek and Oluchi strutting their stuff in in the cities of Abuja and Lagos.

Saint International's boss Deiwight Peters was elated at Sigail's achievement.

"I am extremely pleased that once again, another Saint model will fly the Jamaican flag on a powerful global platform. It is a powerful testament that we live by our slogan, 'Changing lives, expanding horizons," said Peters.

"It is also a powerful statement to highlight Sigail's current status as she will be joining the crème de la crème of the entertainment and fashion world," he concluded.

Purpose of the event

Nduka Obaigbena, the organiser of the event, outlined the purpose of the event: "Right now, the international community seems to be dealing with the symptoms, not the problems of Africa. The symptoms are poverty and disease, but the problem is lack of social and physical infrastructure," he said.

"This initiative is to highlight the need to focus sustainable solutions on the problems through massive investment in infrastructure and micro-finance in order to rebuild Africa from the ground up."

Among the celebrities scheduled to appear are Jay Z, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown and Rihanna.

This year, THISDAY Music and Fashion Festival 2008 (named after one of Nigeria's leading newspapers) started off in Abuja on July 11 and moved to Lagos on July 13. It will then move to Washington, DC, on August 1, while the grand finale will take place in London on October 14.

Enviable international fashion profile

It has received the endorsement of international music, fashion and cultural stars who have praised it as the most significant effort made to get global solutions for the problems of Africa.

Sigail has been enjoying an enviable international fashion profile. Since June, she has been appearing alongside supermodel Kate Moss in the Agent Provocateur lingerie campaign. She was also featured in the Independent Newspaper's Style Feature. She has shot with Boy George for Spanish Vogue. Legendary photographer Nick Knight also booked her for the SAMSONITE campaign. Other high-profile appearances for Sigail include the Yves St Laurent runway show, the Freddie campaign, a main model in a 10-page spread in Italian Vogue, among others.

Sigail is also signed to agencies such as Take 2, London, Zero Models, South Africa and WHY NOT, Milan.
