Christian sports forum on this week
published: Monday | July 7, 2008

Jamaican, Roger Lipe, an internationally recognised mentorship expert, will visit the island at the invitation of Caribbean Sports Reach, to present GAME PLAN, a one-day seminar. Lipe will present on sports mentorship strategies for coaches, mentors, chaplains and members of sports teams.

He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an organisation whose vision is to impact the world for Jesus Christ through the influence of athletes and coaches. The seminar, according to a release from Caribbean Sports Reach, is timely, as this Christian ministry effort is geared at promoting positive behaviour, attitudes and life skills essential to development.

Experienced speaker

A devout Christian, Lipe is the Southern Illinois repre-sentative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the author of five devotional books, most notably, Heart of a Champion - Devotions for the People of Sport and Transforming Lives in Sport - A Guide for Sports Chapions. His innovative mentoring approaches and expertise in coaching leaders and their organisations in designing, implementing and evaluating learner-centred mentoring programmes has made him a member of the international sports coalition, which facilitates his mission through sports.

Critical thinking

Discussions and activities will be structured to address such pro-social behaviours and life skills as self-esteem, positive body image, team work and cooperation, leadership, communication, critical thin-king, self-discipline and anger management, and conflict resolution.

The seminar will be held in Kingston, Montego Bay and Mandeville, July 7-10, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. Contribution is $2,500 and worbooks and refreshments will be provided. Advanced registration is necessary and limited spaces are available. Online registration can be done at chaplain08@yahoo.com;percivalpalmer@yahoo.com.
