Rohan Brown, 30:
No, it will not help. Beating the children will not help the situation, as when they make up their minds to do something they will do it.
Granville Blackford, 33, sales representative:
Yes, when I was going to school as a youngster, corporal punishment helped in encouraging children to do their work and in disciplining a child as well. I believe that if crime perpetrators were disciplined in schools, the crime rate would not be like it is today.
Marie Barnes, medical technologist:
No, it will not improve disci-pline in schools. Discipline has to start in the home. We cannot leave it on teachers alone to discipline children. Parents have to play their role.
Egbert Francis, 52, truck loader:
Yes, it will improve it, as discipline has to start from somewhere, perhaps from the home and then from the teachers and principals.
Angela Hylton, 55, domestic worker:
Yes, it will help because when I was a child, I used to get beating, and no teacher will lick a child to damage that child. Teachers should have power over children. They are the first mothers to the children as when they come home, parents don't have any time for them. When they know they are going to get flogging, they will behave.
