The Editor, Sir:I am writing in response to Angella Turner's 'Why I prefer not to ply on Air Jamaica', published in The Gleaner on June 30. I am in full agreement with Ms Turner, in the sense that Air Jamaica's flights are severely overpriced, when compared to other airlines.
The one time, in the past few years, that I can remember flying on Air Jamaica (the only time the flight was priced reasonably), the experience was unlike any that I have ever encountered. While watching what seemed like a set of uncivilised people fight over hand luggage placement (items that were way too big to even fit in the overhead compartments), seat assignments, bouncing and pushing, refusing to even be slightly polite, it became quite clear that, if I can avoid it, I most certainly will avoid flying Air Jamaica.
'The market flight'
While on the flight, I was made privy to the fact that I was flying on what has been dubbed 'the market flight', referring to the morning flight from New York, as all the higglers stock up. Arriving into Kingston on that flight was a disaster. With my one suitcase and one carry-on piece, I had to wait over two and a half hours, with only two people in front of me going through Customs.
Ms Turner, I am on your side, the pros are non-existent next to the cons.
I am, etc.,
