Extra DCs to fight crime
published: Friday | June 27, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

In view of the lawlessness that is sweeping the land, which gives the impression that the security forces are outnumbered, it is my view that licensed firearm holders could be trained and ask to serve as district constables, as a means of supplementing the security forces.

The geographical locations of these licensed firearm holders can also be helpful in curbing the vexed issue of praedial larceny.

Protection

These additional constables would not only see themselves protecting their families and properties but also their neighbours' lives and properties. I am sure their neighbours, in return, would give wholehearted support.

I guess this suggestion may be opposed on the grounds that I am asking for a police state, but if we are going to stop the carnage in our land, drastic actions will have to be taken.

Fighting crime needs the support of all the law-abiding.

I am, etc.,
