Buckley
Associate Editor at The Gleaner Company, Byron Buckley, has announced his candidacy for president of the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ).
Buckley has served on the executive of the press association for the last two terms. He now holds the post of secretary.
Buckley says he intends to make the PAJ a more professional organisation to serve a more demanding group of media workers.
"My vision is to make the PAJ the envy of all other professional organisations in the region," he said.
"I firmly believe that, with the wealth of knowledge and talent within the PAJ, our organisation should be making a far greater impact on the lives of our members and society as a whole."
Media field
Buckley has been a practitioner in the field of media and communication since 1987 when he began as a columnist for The Gleaner. He has also served as senior political reporter for the Jamaica Observer. Buckley also did a stint at the Jamaica Information Service and Irie FM.
The PAJ presidential hopeful is a lay leader of the Elim Assembly, St Andrew, and is a former chairman of the All Hellshire Leadership Committee.
The election of officers of the PAJ will take place on Sunday, July 27, when the organisation holds its annual general meeting at the PAJ headquarters, 5 East Avenue, St Andrew.
