Combined Colleges win at last
published: Wednesday | June 25, 2008

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

COMBINED COLLEGES registered their first victory in the Jamaica Hockey Federation's (JHF) Premier League against Explorers with a 4-2 victory in men's action at the Mona field at the weekend.

Orville Hicks scored a hat-trick and Kwane Emmanuel struck the other goal for Combined Colleges. Gerald Richards was the lone goalscorer for Explorers.

Christine Bartley, coach of Combined Colleges, said it was a welcome victory for her team.

Close to winning

"We came close to winning many times but always fell short. The players are from different institutions and colleges are on break at the moment," Bartley said. "They are only able to practise on the weekends when they come up for the games," she said.

Bartley indicated that having a Combined Colleges team is an idea in the making that is aimed at exposing and growing the spirit of the game.

"We are working on coordinating the time structure so that we can have all the players practising and improving on their performance," she said.

Circus Circle rebounded from a 1-0 loss to Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) last week with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Raiders United. Charles Burton, Aubyn Ferguson and Leon Kerr scored for Circus Circle and Norris Davis struck for Raiders United.

There was also keen competition between St Andrew and Sharpes in the women's top division. St. Andrew emerged victorious, 1-0, with a goal from Sophia Cooper.
