The Editor, Sir:
In a story captioned 'JN expanding through agents' which appeared in your Sunday June 22, 2008 edition, you stated that "Jamaica National recently grabbed business from Paymaster to become the exclusive bill collector for Jamaica Public Service Company."
That assertion is incorrect on two fronts.
First, Paymaster Jamaica still collects payments on behalf of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) at all our 150 locations islandwide, as we continue to do on behalf of over 50 other client companies.
Second, nobody "grabbed business from Paymaster."
The fact of the matter is that, in November, 2007, Paymaster Jamaica Ltd and JPS, after months of negotiations, came to a mutual decision to terminate the collection services in the JPS-owned locations on February 22, 2008.
Erroneous assertions
As a privately-held stock company that has a fiduciary responsibility to its board and owners, Paymaster which has the most cost-efficient model in our line of business could not justify continued operations in those locations.
This is the second time that we have noted these erroneous assertions in your newspaper and while we are still of the belief that it was a genuine error, we do not expect same to happen again.
Accordingly, we would appreciate your publication of this note.
I am, etc.,
