NOTE-WORTHY: Terrorists
published: Wednesday | June 25, 2008

Terrorists

I am amazed at the gratuitous killing taking place in Jamaica. You are often made to wonder if this is Afghanistan.

It is most troubling to think of the pain and fear people living in these communities have to go through.

This madness must be addressed with appropriate legislation. When gunmen enter communities where innocent children, the elderly and law-abiding citizens live, through no choice of their own, and have to face men who use high-powered rifles, torch people's homes, murder children and women cold-heartedly, then these people are terrorists.

This is why I implore the government to draft terrorist legislation which defines the acts as such, and set up courts to deal with these types of people with the right penalty.

Please stop calling these people criminals and label them correctly, TERRORISTS.

Resume hanging

I think the best way to curb this whole violence thing in Jamaica is to resume hanging.

As soon as someone is sentenced to death and loses their appeal, they should be executed within 48 hours.

If you look at history, any society that is governed by fear always flourishes.

Hang them high and you will see how well society will be transformed.

GSAT controversy

I congratulate both students (James and Win) on their excellent performance in the GSAT.

However, I am disturbed by the controversy and the potential negative emotional impact on both boys, especially considering the fact that they will meet at Campion College in September and might be placed in the same class. The Ministry of Education should eliminate itself from future controversy with parents.

Students should apply to the funding agencies directly upon receipt of their GSAT results, and the board of directors or management of the organisations determine the awardees.

This will eliminate lawsuits for the ministry and waste of taxpayers money.

Once again, James and Win, congratulations!
