National Junior 100 metres record holder, Yohan Blake of St Jago High, was disqualified from the Under-20 final on the last day of the National Junior Track and Field Championships at GC Foster College yesterday.

Blake, who went into the event with the seventh-fastest time (11.10), left his blocks early with the entire field under a warning after a previous false start.

The race was won by Dexter Lee of Herbert Morrison High in 10.36 seconds from Blake's St Jago teammate Nickel Ashmead (10.41) and Oshane Bailey of Calabar, 10.57. The event was originally set for Saturday afternoon but was postponed after heavy rain flooded the running track and surrounding areas.

Blake, 21.06, came back later in the day to take second in the 200m won in 20.89 by Ashmead. Andre Walsh, 21.31, completed a St Jago sweep of the medals.

Kaycea Jones of Edwin Allen High, who surprised Vere Technical's Jura Levy and Carrie Russell of St Thomas Technical to take the 100m on Saturday, completed the sprint double yesterday.

She captured the 200m in 24.17 seconds ahead of her only rival, Venesha Wedderburn of Athletico Union. Levy was down to run the 200m but did not face the starter.

Double winner

Also completing a double yesterday was Kemoy Campbell of Bellefield High.

Campbell, winner of the 1500m on Saturday, took the 5,000m in 14:52.12 yesterday from Daren Lindsay of Manchester High, 16:06.76 and Jermaine Blake of Mile Gully, 16:41.26.

Another double winner was St Jago's Roshane Boreland, who added the Under-20 3,000m title in 10:33.00 to the 1500m title she won in 4:48.39 on Saturday.

Manchester High's Kimberly Brown, 11:00.2, and Frome Technical's Stephanie Barrett, 11:35.7, took the runner-up spots in the 3,000m. Brown, 4:51.43, and Barrett, 5:13.06, were also second and third, respectively, in the 1500m.

Under-20 800m titles

Natoya Goule of Manchester High and Calabar's Andre Thomas won the Under-20 female and male 800m titles. Goule took the girls' race in 2:08.28 from Holmwood's Keno Heavens, 2:10.92 and Mackola Joseph of Edwin Allen, 2:12.82.

Thomas prevailed in a close battle with Ryon Reid (unattached) to capture his two-lap event in 1:53.16. Reid was second in 1:53.76 with another Calabar athlete, Rory Rhoden, third in 1:54.62.

The Under-20 400m champions were Antoinique Campbell of Herbert Morrison and Kingston College's Rolando Berch. Campbell won in a good 53.99 ahead of St Andrew High's Latoya McDermott, 54.50 and Vere's Kayon Campbell, 54.92.

All three medallists in the Under-20 boys went under 48 seconds. Berch clocked 47.55 to win with Akino Ming, formerly of Happy Grove High, second in 47.60 and Holmwood's Vaughn McKenzie third in 47.91.

The Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association's selection committee is expected to meet this week to select the team for the World Junior Championships which is set for Bydgoszcz, Poland, July 8-13.
