WESTERN BUREAU:

Alton Ellis' Girl I've Got A Date, Kathy Lester's Love Letters and Toots and the Maytals' It's You were musically scripted for Myrtle Wong, as husband of 50 years, Earnest, recommitted his love to her.

The two exchanged solid gold wedding bands, fed each other cake, drank champagne from the same glass and kissed like they did 50 years ago in the midst of the island's most spectacular flora, beautifully located by the river in Lethe, St James, last Saturday.

Going above and beyond

Wong, former bodybuilder and successful businessman, was title holder of the 'Mr St James' and 'Mr Cornwall' competitions, while Myrtle, a former 'Miss St James' and runner-up in the 'Miss Jasmine' pageant, were the pride and joy of their children, grand and great grandchildren, who turned out to pay tribute.

"Through life's journey, they have gone above and beyond to help others and to always be there in times of need," reminisced their third child Sharon Wong-Hollis, in her tribute to her parents.

Taking guests down memory lane, Mrs Wong-Hollis spoke of her father's charismatic attitude and her mother's immense charm, assets that have been inherited by the grandchildren.
