Dual citizens have served
published: Friday | June 13, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

With reference to the furore over the dual citizenship saga, Mr Abe Dabdoub and the others have completely forgotten about our Jamaican motto 'Out of many, one people', where most of us originated from different backgrounds - Chinese, Syrians, Africans, Indians and a host of other races who have migrated and started families right here in Jamaica.

Mr Dabdoub, in fairness, let's move on, the people have spoken and clearly stated that they do not need you to be their representative of West Portland.

Drawing for lost straws

Why is it that the section 40 of the Constitution is just now being emphasised when all along representatives of the now Opposition were serving as leaders of Jamaica.

The restrictive rule has remained unused for the last 45 years; and in that time frame, many a dual citizens have served without question. There are a lot of persons holding dual citizenship who have contributed a lot to this country. I should know as I am one of them.

I am, etc.,
