The Editor, Sir:The provision of basic services and facilities to the Old Stony Hill community - namely, Kingswood, Ordon Close and Guava Gap - has deteriorated to a deplorable state. Some of these concern water supply, garbage pick-up, and potholes in the roads. We get water once a week and not even for a full day. Residents have called the National Water Commission with little response.
This past Sunday, we got water for a couple of hours in the morning, then by the time we returned from church (approximately 10:30 a.m.) it was gone. Even with tanks, these run dry when they have to provide water for a family of six over a seven or sometimes eight-day period.
Just garbage
We used to have garbage pick-up at least twice per week. Now we have to call and remind the authorities when more than a week has passed. The non-collection of garbage causes a multiplicity of problems - dogs, rats and the attendant health implications.
Diamond, Kingswood and Wireless Station roads are in a deplorable condition, and in some places, the asphalt is non-existent. The potholes in some areas are better described as craters. My poor old car is shaking to pieces!
This is a plea to the authorities. May we please have some help?
I am, etc.,
