Defending champions Hydel earned their second consecutive hold on the Inter-Prep Schools' Track and Field Championships title at the National Stadium on last Saturday.

Hydel topped the standings with 280.5 points, 104 ahead of Vaz 176.5, Quest 147, Wolmer's 96.5, Ardenne 80.5 and Lannaman's 75.

Hydel also captured both male and female sections, respectively.

They won the boys' standings with 149 points ahead of Vaz 111.5, Portmore Missionary 61.5, Covenant Christian 57, Quest 46 and Ardenne 35, and captured the girls' category with 131.5 points, well clear of Quest with 101, Wolmer's 65.5, Vaz 65, Mavisville 48.5, Ardenne 45.5 and Lannaman's 41.

Coach elated

Corey Bennett, coach of Hydel, was elated with his team's performance.

"I am feeling good ... words can't explain it," said Bennett.

"This one is very special because we started off fairly slowly in the season but we developed steadily throughout and I think that our athletes peaked in time for Champs," Bennett added.

Tasana Kerr of Hydel won the girls' Class One 300m in 43.19 ahead of her teammate Amanda Carty, 43.71, and Quest's Tamara Brown, 44.06.

Rogena Jackson of Quest captured the girls' Class One 100m in 13.11, while Shauna Helps of Wolmer's was second in 13.20 and Hydel's Kerr third in 13.41.

Lannaman's Akeem Bloomfield won the boys' Class Two 100m in 13.43 ahead Khori Bennett of Covenant Christian, who was timed in 13.71 and Hydel's Daniel Tugwell, who did 13.85 for third.

Jordan James of Hydel won the boys' Class One 200m in 25.23, while Leighton Perrins clocked 25.27 for second.
