The Editor, Sir:Greetings. I would like to express my appreciation for the land of Jamaica. As a geographer, it is good to see so much greenery and many undeveloped and natural lands.
Before it becomes too late or we become overdeveloped I must suggest that we make sure we continue to have much green area and places with beauty, vegetation and soil unspoilt. Let us make sure that especially our hotel developments, housing and industrial estates and urbanisation do not continue unabated and uncontrollably to crowd out pristine beauty, natural areas and eco-tourism and general viability.
Manage development
We will defeat ourselves if we cannot manage sustainable development, by declining overuse of our non-renewable resources, while we practice abstinence, restraint and population control to resist overpopulation.
We need a collective environmental consciousness especially about litter, garbage and noise. We must manage and control the environment which is God's gift to us, if the land is to survive, reflecting the fact that we value cleanliness, beauty and environmental balance.
I am, etc.,
