YESTERDAY'S 12-RACE programme at Caymanas Park was marked by a number of upsets, chief among them PROSPECT QUE at 99-1 in the 10th race over 1400 metres for maiden four-year-olds and up.
In a rather eventful race, PROSPECT QUE, with Kerry Perry up, outbattled the 24-1 outsider CT PAM in the straight to win by 1 3/4 lengths from another 99-1 outsider, LADY KALOUTE, who got up on the line to pip CT PAM for second.
Following a lengthy stewards' inquiry, CT PAM, who chased the Frank Parham-trained PROSPECT QUE into the straight, was disqualified and placed last for causing the fall of champion jockey Omar Walker from SIMPLY DEVINE (9-2).
Triple for Mullings
SIMPLY DEVINE was racing prominently on the inside in third when CT PAM came down a bit sharply leaving the half mile, causing the filly to stumble and unseat Walker, who escaped injury.
On a day when Oneil Mullings rode three winners, other upsets were provided by AGUILA at 52-1 with Mullings aboard in the fifth race over the straight five course; SATISFIER at 22-1 in the 11th for open allowance horses, the Robert Darby-trained WHEELS OF LAW (Mullings up) at 14-1 in the ninth race for the Alty McKenzie Memorial Cup and Walker's only winner, HOME TOWN GIRL, at 9-1 in the closing race.
Indeed, only two favourites in THE PRINCIPAL and MINERVA (both newcomers) were unsaddled in the winners' enclosure. As a result, the Pick-9 carryover stands at $5.67 million.
