Want to help kids in need
published: Thursday | June 5, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Having spoken to many Jamaicans who are currently living abroad, but who keep abreast of the news in Jamaica, we would love to help or, better yet, give back a little 'something'. For example, I have two bags full of gently used baby clothes that would help the young girl who has no one but her mother to help her, but the cost of shipping the stuff home is expensive, and then the recipient has to pay for it at the airport, or wherever.

'Tings hard'

It breaks my heart, and the fact that we now have to pay for every piece of luggage, that is, when we can get a cheap ticket, makes it difficult to help.

Even for the children's homes? Is there a special way or form or anything that can be used to bypass some of the costs to assist the children in need? We can have clothing drives and special events to get things donated for these children.

We know 'tings hard' but we are, after all, ONE PEOPLE.

I am, etc.,
