Defending champions Jamalco grabbed their sixth consecutive lien on the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Berger Paints Super League title, after a nail-biting 43-42 victory over Tivoli Gardens in game two of the finals on Saturday night at the National Arena.
Jamalco won the best-of-three finals 2-0.
Waulgrovians 'A' won third place by thrashing Jetsetters 'A' 66-38. National representative Simone Forbes (34 goals from 40 attempts) and Suzette DeSouza (32 goals from 36 tries) scored for Waulgrovians 'A'.
National Under-21 player Crystal Gordon top scored for Jetsetters 'A' with 37 goals from 46 attempts.
Exciting first half
In the final, the first half was exciting and very competitive with Jamalco clinging to a one-point lead (21-20) at half-time.
Jamalco came out firing on all cylinders in the third and quickly opened a five-point lead, courtesy of national goal shooter Elaine Davis who sunk four straight points.
However, Tivoli Gardens rallied strongly in the final two minutes as they closed the quarter on a 5-3 run to end the period with a 32-30 lead.
Jamalco had a strong fourth quarter, breaking well from the outset and kept on improving until they tied the game 42-42 with less than a minute remaining.
Tivoli's downfall came at the hands of its players who made some crucial turnovers, the last of which enabled Davis to score the winning goal, much to the delight of the Jamalco supporters.
Davis led the way for Jamalco with 28 goals from 35 attempts, with solid support coming from goal attack Marsha Murphy, who netted 13 goals.
Top scorer
National player Kasey Evering top scored for Tivoli Gardens with 27 goals from 37 tries.
Winston Nevers, coach of Jamalco, was delighted.
"It was a good game," said Nevers. "I know that Tivoli Gardens would come at us because they are a quality team and Slyvester Campbell is a very good coach.
"We played to our game plan and the girls followed the instructions and I must lift my hat to them because they executed well throughout the match."
Tivoli's Campbell said: "I am disappointed because I felt we were good up to the last two minutes of the game, but it just slipped away at the end."
He added: "I was a little concerned about an interpretation on a call towards the end, but the umpires are in charge and we must respect their decision."
