Scared to come home
published: Monday | June 2, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I am a Jamaican mother living in the United States and I must say, I am scared to even visit my family that still resides in the island. I am a single mother of three kids whose father was murdered in Jamaica in 2003.

I love my country but fear for my life and have made a choice not to visit the island. These sentiments are expressed by many Jamaican nationals who are weeping for our poor island.

I am calling on all decent law-abiding Jamaicans to come together and rid the island of all these killers. We want to be remembered as intelligent, caring and loving.

We can do better, Jamaicans, Let's begin today by denouncing all the violence in our island.

I am, etc.,
