Special House sitting sought
published: Monday | June 2, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

The Young Professionals' Caucus of the People's National Party is calling on the nation to support our request for a special session of Parliament to be convened to define and agree upon a national response and strategy to ebb the increasing rate of violent crimes in the country.

As we pay homage to the security forces for their continued gallant service to our nation, we commiserate with the families of those who have been slain while on duty and mourn the loss of lives, which continues to rob our nation of value, productivity and hope.

Nation's stability

We are unimpressed by the vacuousness of the current set of responses by the political administration to this growing threat to our nation's stability. Without too much comment, we also record our dissatisfaction with the statements made by the honourable prime minister as he responded to questions on the subject in the latest installation of his radio programme. It is not sufficient to attribute blame. We must now seek to find solutions as a matter of urgency. Anything else is a betrayal.

We entreat the prime minister to grant our request for a special session of the Parliament on the issue. The sole objective of same is to harness all constructive proposals to formulate a national response to our crime problem and to present the nation with a clear and com-prehensive policy to resolve the problem.

I am, etc.,

RAYMOND PRYCE

Chairman
