Creating affordable shopping
published: Monday | June 2, 2008

Sacha Walters, Staff Reporter

Vanessa Reid-Boothe - Rudolph Brown/Chief Photographer

As a young girl, Vanessa Reid-Boothe watched her father, an advertising photographer, come home with all kinds of products to capture with his lens. Then she would discover those photos on cans in the supermarkets or in magazines. She, too, longed to be in advertising.

While Reid-Boothe never got to pursue marketing the way she originally intended, she has learnt that it's not so bad trying something different.

New product

As assistant vice-president and general manager of Asset Management Company Limited, a subsidiary of Scotia DBG Investments, she heads a company with a new product to benefit consumers; the Easy Own brand, which was launched in 2006. Easy Own allows shoppers to go to a selected group of appliance and furniture stores and get such items on credit. They only have to go through one credit approval to get clearance to shop at seven stores, including all their locations. Some include ATL, Bashco, Khemlani Mart and Today's Furniture.

"It gives them choices and the flexibility of shopping for what they want," Reid-Boothe said.

Asset Management Company is responsible for credit approval and credit collection for the brand.

Experience in credit

The 35-year-old has most of her experience in credit, having worked previously at Courts and National Commercial Bank.

Reid-Boothe is a past student of Wolmer's Girls' School, The University of the West Indies and Bernard Baruch College in the United States of America. She holds a Bachelor of Science in management studies and Master of Science in marketing.

She hopes to grow the brand to a point where she can pass the baton to a deserving member of her team.

Married for 12 years to Paul Boothe, she said she just loves to entertain and be with friends. "When I draw someone close to me, we are usually friends for life."

She is the mother of five-year-old Lauren.
