Keisha Shakespeare-Blackmore, Staff Reporterm
Andrea Tinker
Andrea Tinker, chief financial controller at Scotia DBG Investments, is a workaholic who has a passion for what she does.
The 47-year-old executive started with the company in 1993 as an account. Five years later, she was made vice-president of finance and about a year ago, she moved up the ranks to chief financial controller.
She notes that her job comes with a lot of hard work and is challenging at times, especially meeting deadlines and regulatory requirements. "But I love it and would never see myself doing anything other than accounting," she said.
She is one who takes pride in whatever she does and will not quit until her task is completed. She said she does not focus too much on the rewarding aspect of the job, especially monetary rewards. However, she tries to be an example to her staff and coworkers. She said a job is a job and she does not focus on the work, she just does what needs to be done. And she does it to the best of her ability.
She told Flair she would advise any young person wanting to go into the financial world to pursue an education first. "They must work hard and remember they cannot get to the top overnight. Also, they should maintain their integrity and don't sacrifice it for anything."
How she spends her time
Tinker spends most of her time on the job and on the weekends, she attends church. And she spends her spare time with her nieces and nephews. She notes that she works hard so they can have a good education. "I live for taking care of them."
She said that she believes that prayer solves a lot of things and where there is a will, there is a way. As far as the future goes, she hopes to retire in good health. Then she can pursue farming. "I am a nature person and I enjoy the wonders of nature that constantly remind me that there is a supreme being."
