Ziadie saddles three winners at Calder
published: Sunday | June 1, 2008

ZIADIE - File

MIAMI, Florida (CMC):

JAMAICAN TRAINER Kirk Ziadie landed three winners at Calder Racecourse on Friday to open up an impressive lead in the early stages of the young season.

Ziadie first reached the winners' enclosure with Otis Ridge in race four and returned there with Tzintzicha in race six and Sadie's Time in race nine.

Otis Ridge, the raging hot favourite, was an impressive winner when he dismissed the three-year-olds and upward on turf going over 1-1/8th miles.

Jockey Ariel Smith raced the six-year old gelding off the pace as Champagne Brunch and Bargain Barry led the field through its early paces. Otis Ridge overhauled the leaders early in the stretch before drawing away to win by nine lengths. Smith scored his second for Ziadie two races later when he guided Tzintzicha to a dramatic win in a five furlong sprint.

The filly chased the pace set by Lunar Starlet and Glory Tour before switching from the rails to the outside and getting up late to win by a length in 57:16 seconds.

Ziadie's hat-trick was then delivered by fellow Jamaican Wesley Henry who hammered the field with the three-year-old chestnut filly Sadie's Time, to win by 14-3/4 lengths. Ziadie leads the trainers' standings with 12 wins, five clear of the trio of Joseph Calascibetta, Edward Plesa Jnr and William White.
