The Editor, Sir:
There is yet no response from the Ministry of Health's Environment Unit on The Gleaner's investigative piece on the condition of our slaughterhouses islandwide. Should not this be of national concern?
The experts say yes, it's bad. Agriculture Minister Dr Tufton says he is aware and plans are in place. Photographic evidence exposed the conditions, yet the silence is deafening, no one to take responsibility.
What next, ladies and gentlemen? Do you really care or are you too busy trying to protect your six-figure salaries?
In our best interest
The Gleaner was gracious in its presentation of the facts, but while it is admirable to be patriotic, as a proud Jamaican, I would prefer to see us suffer international humiliation, than cover up the mess in our food-processing sector.
It is, therefore, in the best public interest that those who have responsibility for the sector get up out of their easy chairs and act now.
Gleaner, as the national paper, you have a responsibility to stay on this one until we get a response.
I am, etc.,
