Gay backlash?
published: Monday | May 26, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Is it true that powerful homosexual communities in the UK, USA and elsewhere are looking at banning Prime Minister Bruce Golding from touring their countries and withdrawing state benefits as they have successfully managed to bar some of our reggae artistes from touring their countries?

The prime minister is brave and upright to talk on the BBC TV programme Hardtalk and state his views on homosexuality.

We are not alone

However, Mr Golding should be aware of the likely implications his message might have on the country and himself as powerful gay-rights groups internationally and locally have successfully managed to make fair headway into some societies - recognising same-sex unions, for example.

Jamaica, however, is not the only country with negative attitudes towards gays. The Gambian president recently told a political rally in The Gambia that "gays must leave the country or have their heads cut off". So Mr Golding doesn't need to be afraid to say no to gays.

I am, etc.,
