The new Robert MacMillan… for Halifax conference
published: Monday | May 26, 2008

Robert MacMillan, 40 pounds lighter. - Ricardo Makyn/Staff Photographer

When Flair's popular feature, 'Guess Who?', made a joke about the Robert MacMillan of today versus the one in his 20s, he was quick to inform us that he is on his way back to his trim frame. So, what is the secret? Robert is on a special diet and we asked him to share it with Flair readers.

MacMillan's Diet

1I buy a pack of deli-select roast beef or turkey (or better, half pack) and combine that with mixed organic greens, add carrots, celery, broccoli, anything to add crunch, garlic, etc. I use a little olive or grapeseed oil, balsamic vinegar and a packet of splenda for dressing. This makes a filling, satisfying, low-calorie meal.

2 Another small meal consists of chopped callaloo with flaked saltfish, cooked down with onion, garlic, whatever spices, sliced, raw tomatoes.

3 Still another alternative is Foska oats with honey and skimmed milk, add some wheatgerm if you wish, but not too much.

4 I have no booze, including wine, because it's filled with sugar and empty calories. My drink now is a little no-sugar cranberry juice with club soda and a wedge of lime. It's delicious and I remember everything afterwards.

5 My other drinks include fruit juices. There's a juice selection called Ceres at Loshusan supermarket. They're terrific.

6 Plain yoghurt is also included and I add a little honey and some bran cereal for the crunch. This is a good occasional snack.

7 I do not eat after 6 p.m. but if I am 'dropping down', I eat some sardine with herbal tea or get up to something that doesn't involve eating food. If I brush my teeth, I don't feel like eating after that.

8 The principle is eating small portions regularly at the onset to avoid hunger pangs then gradually go back to three meals a day.

Robert MacMillan, chairman of MacMillan Advertising Limited, will be presenting a major address at the 46th annual conference of the Trans-Canada Advertising Agency Network (T-CAAN), to be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, June 4-8.

T-CAAN is a team of agencies across Canada which offers integrated marketing services.

MacMillan Advertising Limited is the only Caribbean-based advertising agency affiliated to the network since 1969. In 1987, MacMillan received their highest honour, the designation of master advertising practitioner.
