Collymore saves day for Sussex
published: Thursday | May 22, 2008

NOTTINGHAM, England (CMC):

WEST INDIES medium pacer Corey Collymore enjoyed a fruitful day, grabbing four wickets for champions Sussex to earn the advantage over Nottinghamshire on the second day of their key English County Division One match yesterday.

League leaders Nottinghamshire scored 251 as they replied to the Sussex first innings score of 277, and Sussex reached 70 for two at stumps in their second innings at Trent Bridge.

After Matt Prior's century (131) had propelled Sussex on the opening day, the visitors delivered a strong bowling performance, led by Collymore and Robin Martin-Jenkins, to secure the first innings advantage.

Barbadian Collymore bowled beautifully for figures of four for 47 off 21.2 overs and Martin-Jenkins snared three for 36 off 17 overs.

Half-centuries

Mark Wagh (54) and Adam Voges (53) got half-centuries for Nottinghamshire but they fell short in the first-innings tussle.

Sussex moved into a 96-run lead overall by reaching 70 for two in their second innings.

At the Nevill Ground, Antiguan pacer Robbie Joseph picked up four wickets to help Kent restrict Somerset to 208 all out on the opening day of their match.

Peter Trego top scored with 49, including nine boundaries, but he was one of Joseph's victims and no other batsman got past 30 runs.

The 26-year-old Joseph, finished with four for 67 off 16 overs. At the close, Kent were 85 for three in reply.
