The Jamaican National Under-13 netball team con-tinued their dominance over the visiting George Hicks High School from the Cayman Islands as they drubbed them 50-3 in the second game of a three-match series at the Leila Robinson Courts, yesterday.

The Jamaica team, which won the opening game of the series 39-5, led 12-0 at the end of the first 10-minute quarter, 25-1 at half-time, and 37-2 at the end of the third quarter, before closing out an emphatic victory.

Poor passing

Thristina Harwood led all scorers with 18 goals from 28 attempts, supported by Vanessa Jones with 10 of 17 and Daniel Jacobs with six from 12 attempts. Delisa Gourzong had three goals from six attempts for the Caymanians.

The Cayman Islands players were let down by poor passing which was not helped by gusty winds at the match venue. They also missed a number of goal attempts.

National coach Barbara Sinclair told The Gleaner the Caymanian team should be able to apply the skills learnt here in Jamaica to their programme in the Cayman Islands. She stated that the series was more geared towards assessing the development of the young players than about winning the matches.

"From yesterday, I looked at what they needed to improve and we went back to basics. So we looked at landing and deciding when it was necessary to have a high or a low ball. What was weak was the strength of the passes but that will come," Sinclair said.

Disappointing

George Hicks coach Christine Virgo said, based on the level of her team, their performance in yesterday's encounter, though disappointing, was satisfactory.

"For me, it was a little bit disappointing. I don't think the girls are trying to apply all the techniques that the coaches are trying to teach them. But we will have a team talk, and we will see where we go from there," she said.

The third and final game will be played this afternoon at the Leila Robinson Courts.
