Backgammon tournament at Strawberry Hill
published: Sunday | May 18, 2008

STRAWBERRY HILL Hotel and Spa has launched its High Stakes Backgammon Tournament, which is scheduled for June 6-8 at the hotel in Irish Town, St Andrew.

Backgammon is a board game for two players who aim to move all their 'checkers' from the board, according to the roll of a dice.

This is the third staging of the tournament and 32 players are expected to enter for cash and prizes valued at $1.5 million.

"Backgammon is played by millions of people around the world and the High Stakes Backgammon Tournament at Strawberry Hill is the first and only one of its kind in Jamaica," said organiser, Alastair MacBeath.

The registration cost of $35,000 will cover participation, meals and drinks for the weekend.
