WESTERN BUREAU:Allan Daswani, his two sons, Ravi and Andy, and daughter-in-law Michelle, welcomed India's Jaipur polo team at their Mango Walk, St James, residence last Saturday night with true Jamaican/Indian hospitality.

The following day, Chukka Blue's Andy Vernon and John Byles, Kurt and Shane Chin showed the Indians why Jamaica, a small island of approximately 2.6 million people, boasts some of sports' best men and women.

Displacing the Jaipur team, Jamaica's Chukka Blue trounced their opponents 9-6 in the teams' first encounter of the FirstCaribbean Wealth Management Jaipur Polo Trophy game at Chukka Blue polo field, Hanover.

In what many described as "excitingly competitive", Chukka's Kurt Chin scored five goals for the Jamaicans, earning for himself the Most Valuable Player prize, while his magnificent horse, Alegro, was named Best Playing Pony.

Propelling Jamaica's superiority was Shane Chin's two goals, John Byles' one and team captain, Andy Vernon's one. Top scorer for the Indians was Vishal Singh with four goals, while Angad Kalaan scored the other two goals. Completing the Indian team were Vicky Nihalani and Ajit Singh.

Sponsors

Last Sunday's match was the first in a four-match series sponsored by FirstCaribbean International Bank Jamaica Limited's Wealth Management, expanding the bank's support for sporting events regionwide in keeping with its commitment to "community partnership".

Other sponsors included Virgin Atlantic, Round Hill and Jamaica Inn hotels, Audi, Jamaica Tours, the Royal Shop and Tropical Jewellers.
