Latoya Grindley, Features Writer'Digicel takes the cream of the crop of new university graduates as new recruits," says Michelle Gentles, human resource services manager at Digicel.
According to her, the company works closely with universities to make this possible.
She says the company is active in career fairs hosted by universities. Members of the HR Department, along with some managers, visit these events in an attempt to recruit prospective employees.
Currently, the manager says there is a demand for students graduating in the field of computer science and technology.
"We, therefore, request résumés from the universities for those students and have preliminary interviews with them. If they are successful, we pass on their résumés to senior managers."
Gentles notes that when job applications are sent to the company, shortlisting is done based on job profiles. She says the résumés are often matched with the various job profiles to determine compatibility with available vacancies.
There are some basics that must be observed when doing an interview.
"Preparation is critical in terms of knowledge of the company, the company's marketing work and community relations. They are to have at least some knowledge of telecommunications and more so the network that we use," Gentles highlighted.
