PERFORMER OF THE WEEK: Brigitte hits her strike in Qatar
published: Saturday | May 17, 2008

Jamaica's Brigitte Foster-Hylton (right) wins the women's 100m event hurdles in 12.56 seconds at the Qatar Super Grand Prix in Doha last Friday ahead of American Lolo Jones.

WITH AN impressive win in the women's 100m hurdles at the Qatar Super Grand Prix in Doha last Friday, Brigitte Foster-Hylton is The Gleaner's Performer of the Week.

Foster-Hylton, who capitalised on a flying start, stopped the clock at 12:56 second in a season-best performance, beating the American pair of Lolo Jones (12.65) and defending champion Virginia Powell (12.77), with Jamaican Lacena Golding-Clarke fourth in 12:83.

Third fastest world time

Her time broke the previous meet record of 12:66 set by Powell last year.

Foster-Hylton now has the third fastest time recorded this year, behind the American Damu Cherry (12:47) and compatriot Delloreen Ellis-London (12:54).

A World Championship silver and bronze medalist and Commonwealth Games champion in the event, Foster-Hylton, the national 100m record holder, was the only Jamaican winner at the meet.

She is preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing, China in August and is progressing well under the watchful eye of her MVP coach, the accomplished Stephen Francis.
