The sex lives of men: exploring sexually transmitted viruses

Dear Dr Williams-Green:

I read your article in The Gleaner. I reside in New York and I try to keep up with the news from Jamaica.

I am working on a presentation which is also about sexually transmitted diseases; I would like to come to Jamaica and show it to schoolchildren. They are getting out of hand and something needs to be done before the whole country becomes sex crazed.

The slides which I have are raw and I think if these children see the real thing it might deter them from their bad behaviour. I have attached a few slides. Please let me know what you think and if what I am planning to do is worthwhile.

— Nadia Scott

Dear Nadia:

I think that your desire to assist Jamaican children with the problems of sexuality and reproductive health is commendable.

Local surveys have shown that many youth are still uninformed about sex and the way girls become pregnant, STIs and condom use. Your services would be best utilised by contacting the regional health authorities who conduct adolescent reproductive health initiatives in the public health sector or NGOs and youth organisations such as the National Youth Development Council, and the National AIDS Committee.

- Dr Williams-Green
