Boys' Town end season with 4-2 win
published: Monday | May 12, 2008

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

Boys' Town were on fire in yesterday's final game of the National Premier League at Collie Smith Drive as they whipped Waterhouse 4-2 in a thrilling encounter.

The winners went ahead in the 23rd minute from Denzil Watson found the back of the net with a powerful right foot shot.

Garfield Gillespie increased his team's lead in the 60th minute. George Vernal made it 3-0 five minutes later. Renae Lloyd sealed his team's victory in the 89th minute after Weston Forrest (84th) and Newton Sterling (85th) had given Waterhouse a glimmer of hope.

According to Wayne Fairclough, coach of Waterhouse, he kept eight of the team's key players on the bench as they will play the COK Champions Cup final on Tuesday and it was necessary to rest some of their best players.

Problems

He added: "The defensive unit played well, but the link men created problems for us today. I think they got side-tracked in that they were tracking and not tackling. This resulted in so many goals scored against us."

Meanwhile Andrew Price coach of Boys' Town was thankful that his team had improved their perfor-mance over last year's season.

"Placing ninth last season and coming third this season I think it is a major achievement for the team, and what we have to do is grow on this and try to keep this nucleus together," Price said.
